GIRLS FROM OMSK Shop Tour: TRENDS BRANDS

Store name: TRENDS BRANDS for FRIENDS

We had no idea about the name, so I just asked my friends on Facebook – I  had hundred comments and then got this idea for the store’s name.

Who are you?

Anastasia Sartan (CEO Trends Brands) and Varya Vedeneeva (marketing manager of Trends Brands)

We are a brand new Russian online store with free delivery all over the country and an offline shop corner in Moscow. During the 6 months of our existence we’ve already made great results: one of the most popular bands, Tesla Boy, played at our shop corner’s launch, website and store relaunch, we were nominated as “best new shop” by Time-out Moscow and The-village.ru. As well, we provide new standards of quality and client-service comparable to how it is in Europe. We enjoy making fun descriptions and styling our products creatively, no more boring photos and text.

What is the store concept?

The biggest online retailer with a selection of the best brands from all over the world.

Who shops here?

Young, sophisticated people from 16 up to 35 years old. Influencers, opinion-leaders, fashion or near-fashion orientated, musicians, artists, journalists etc...

Which celebrity would you love to have visit TRENDS BRANDS?

Guess it’s Ksenia Sobchak. We really like what she’s doing here in Moscow and she has great sense of humor as well. (image from wikipedia)

Why do you love GIRLS FROM OMSK?

You make extraordinary clothes – that’s the main reason. We like how you mix current and upcoming trends with distinctive Russian culture.

What is your favorite item from the FW2011 GIRLS FROM OMSK collection?

Oh grr, it’s not an easy choice. Can we pick few? I think they are:

the famous Shishkin print t-shirt (MEG MISHKI)

the Anna Akhmatova sweatshirt (MOTHER AKHMATOVA) and the plaid flannel shirt (MURDER).

And for sure it’s the kitten print (EGG BEGEMOTT). We love cats and kittens! Catvertising!

Can you tell us something more?

Definitely! The biggest thing we want is to see beautiful girls in dresses and handsome young men well dressed and not only in Moscow or Saint Petersburg. We want to make  all our clients happy and break this stereotype about Russia – we have new generation here and everything is going to be amazing. We don’t believe in the end of the world in 2012 ;)

How can we find you?

We love internet, you can find us everywhere:

GIRLS FROM OMSK Shop Tour: GARDE-ROBE NATIONALE

The GIRLS FROM OMSK Shop Tour is a collaborative project GIRLS FROM OMSK and the shops The closet, Cream, WAKE UP, Mr. Ego, REWIND and garde-robe nationale. We wanted to let you know a little more about the shops that carry the collection.

Store name: GARDE-ROBE NATIONALE

When the store first opened 10 years ago, there wasn’t much going on our street (Nationalestraat). It didn’t have any clothing shops. So when it came to naming the shop we thought that this would be the “garde-robe” on the Nationalestraat. Now there are so many clothing shops around us and this is really a cool area, but in the beginning it wasn’t so.

Who are you?

Nathalie Lachat (Manager and buyer)

What is the store concept?

Bringing fashion to the woman on the street.

There is so much going on with the fashion scene in Antwerp, but looking out on the street we didn’t see many women actually wearing stylish clothes. We stock collections that balance affordability with creativity and quality. Our philosophy is less about the brand and more about getting our clients to put their stamp on the clothes. It is better sometimes that you don’t know the brand that you are wearing, but to find your own style.

Who shops here?

I find a lot of the woman who comes in here is dynamic and successful, in control of her world. But that she often lacks confidence with fashion. So we try to help her find the right style for her personality / body type so that she can look as good on the outside as on the inside.

Which celebrity would you love to see come in GARDE-ROBE NATIONALE?

I’m sick of celebrities! When a woman comes in the shop she is a woman, not a celebrity. Everyone is treated the same here.

Why do you love GIRLS FROM OMSK?

It’s a brand that I didn’t have in the shop. They have a street chic attitude and something we were missing, the casual element. There is a great balance on price and quality. I also love that the collections evolve each season, the brand is growing up, but not getting old. It also brings another type of client into the shop.

What is your favorite item from the FW2011 GIRLS FROM OMSK collection?

I have these great glitter shoes that work super well with the MOTHER AKHMATOVA (here is Nathalie in the top)

I also found the SHUN01 BARRETTE COLORS that I really had a hard time leaving behind. (here’s me and thank you to Nathalie, for her great stylist’s eye on the pic)

Can you tell us something more?

When we're talking with the women that come in the shop it becomes sometimes psychology through clothes, showing women that some of their ideas about their bodies are incorrect and maybe getting them to try out a different style. Most of all, we are honest. Clothing is part of the first impression that a person makes and so we help translate what a woman wants to communicate. I can easily become a personal stylist for a lot of my clients.

GIRLS FROM OMSK Shop Tour: REWIND STORE

The GIRLS FROM OMSK Shop Tour is a collaborative project GIRLS FROM OMSK and the shops The closet, Cream, WAKE UP, Mr. Ego, Rewind and garde-robe nationale. We wanted to let you know a little more about the shops that carry the collection.

Store name: Rewind

When the store first opened, we were focussed on stock sales where you could “rewind” to last season and find great styles at discounted prices. From about 3-4 years ago we started stocking new collections.

Who are you?

Candice (Assistant Manager)

What is the store concept?

Exclusive brands and timeless styles.

We started with a lot of Scandinavian brands, but now there are also a lot of French/Belgian designers that we stock in the shop. We stock basics with a twist, something you can wear for more than one season.

Who shops here?

Our client likes quality clothing and wants to wear the clothes that she buys for more than one year. She’s looking for basics that don’t go out of style, but with a bit of edge

Which celebrity would you love to see come in REWIND?

Miranda July and Robyn (pictures from http://mirandajuly.com/ and http://www.myspace.com/robynmyspace)

Why do you love GIRLS FROM OMSK?

It’s a brand that lifts up the rest of the collections in the shop. I especially love they way they take a timeless classic sweatshirt (like the MOTHER BADGE) and add a little twist, the shoulder stitching and logo badge, to make it original and edgy. But it keeps the classic easy-to-wear feel and is definitely not boring. The tees also have super original prints and you can just keep wearing them because they never go out of fashion. The fabrics are great too. I love how they start with a basic and make it their own.

What is your favorite item from the FW2011 GIRLS FROM OMSK collection?

The SHUN01 BARRETTE GOLD! I love the sweatshirts- classic with an edgy twist. (Candice in a sweatshirt from the FW11 collection)

Completely agreeing with Candice, here’s the MOTHER BADGE in grey. (That I decided to try on)

Can you tell us something more?

REWIND is evolving into a concept shop, with perfumes, magazines, and vintage furniture. So stop by and check out the new items & original finds that we have in store.

We've also just opened a men's shop with some super cool clothes for the guys as well.

GIRLS FROM OMSK Shop Tour: Mr. Ego

Store name: Mr Ego

When we first launched the shop, we were planning to call it “Under Elvis” because the well-known Belgian hat designer Elvis Pompilio lives just upstairs, but he wasn’t flattered by the reference, which we settled (in court!) and so the shop name “Mr. Ego” was born.

Who are you?

Julie (buyer and sales)

What is the store concept?

Streetwear that you can’t find everywhere else.

With clothes for both men and women, we stock a broad selection of original brands at an affordable price point. We aim to be different from the clothes you would find on the high street and to give our clients a cool, original look.

Who shops here?

Our client is YOUNG, an individual and looking to express themselves in cool clothing.

Which celebrity would you love to see come in Mr Ego?

Kitty Daisy & Lewis (Photo from kittydaisyandlewis.com)

Why do you love GIRLS FROM OMSK?

First off, they’re a Belgian label. We love the collection and it compliments a lot of the other styles in the shop. At first they were a bit too pricey for us. But now we find that the price point works for our clients as well. Which is great because the streetwear vibe is great. And it’s nice to have a local independent label in the shop.

What is your favorite item from the FW2011 GIRLS FROM OMSK collection?

I love the MISTY MOLTONNE - everyone needs a good puffer jacket. (here’s Julie in the MISTY MOLTONNE)

Always a fan of the GIRLS FROM OMSK t-shirts here’s the MEG CHAIKI. (That I decided to try on)

Can you tell us something more?

We love the local music and art scene. We're always presenting new artists and musicians. We invite DJs in on some Saturdays to do music sets in the shop.

GIRLS FROM OMSK Shop Tour: WAKE UP

The GIRLS FROM OMSK Shop Tour is a collaborative project GIRLS FROM OMSK and the shops The closet, Cream, WAKE UP, Mr. Ego, Rewind and garde-robe nationale. We wanted to let you know a little more about the shops that carry the collection.

Store name: WAKE UP

The store’s name is all about inviting people to “wake up” and discover something new. Personally, it also is a reminder to myself to “wake up” because it’s time to go to work. :)

Who are you?

Noemie (manager/designer/curator/buyer)

What is the store concept?

A mix of colourful, funky streetwear.

It is a concept store that merges an atelier (for my collection), a gallery and a clothing shop. You can find clothes, jewelry, shoes, art, design, accessories, and music. When people visit, I want them to feel that they have discovered something different and fun. Visiting the shop, you’ll find a range of comfortable clothes for our day-to-day lives.

Who shops here?

My clients range from 25-40, and they are energetic and definitely not afraid of colour. The clothes that they find here fit immediately into their lives. I want the women and men who come in here to go out buying something they’ll wear everyday, and not something that’ll just hang in the closet.

Which celebrity would you love to see come into WAKE UP?

The singer-songwriter Ayo. (photo from http://www.myspace.com/ayo)

Why do you love GIRLS FROM OMSK?

GIRLS FROM OMSK are a great mix and match addition to the shop! The clothing is cut very well and the materials are high quality. The colours adapt well and compliment the bright prints from the other collections in the shop.

What is your favorite item from the FW2011 GIRLS FROM OMSK collection?

For now it's the BOOTY LOVER, but that may change later! (here’s Noemie modeling the BOOTY LOVER)

And I was excited to find the BATTLE - ok it’s not part of the FW2011 collection, but still good for the chilly-but-not-cold weather we have right now. (here’s me being being tempted by the jacket)

Can you tell us something more?

I create my own collection that can also be found in WAKE UP.

Since November 2010, I’m also part of a creative project called Cut Up Collectif. I’ve joined up with another fashion designer and a make-up artist and together we are presenting a reflection of our styles in a series of photographs and other activities. Check it out here.

GIRLS FROM OMSK Shop Tour: CREAM

The GIRLS FROM OMSK Shop Tour is a collaborative project GIRLS FROM OMSK and the shops The closet, CREAM, Wake Up, Mr. Ego, Rewind and garde-robe nationale. We wanted to let you know a little more about the shops that carry the collection.

Store name: CREAM

The store’s name is from hip hop lyrics of the 90’s and picks up on the skater vibe from that time.

Who are you?

Tommy (buyer and sales)

What is the store concept?

Street meets fashion with a local twist.

CREAM (and its sister store LIMITS) launched 20 years ago, before online shopping was everywhere. At first it was a destination shop in Ghent where brands not normally available in Belgium could be found. Now that it is easier to access international brands, we specialise in choosing the clothes that suit the vibe of our clients. This means also stocking the more niche items from a designer’s collection, the things that won’t be found in other shops.

Who shops here?

We have a big age range, maybe 16 to 45, but usually our client is in their 20’s, outgoing and confident. They are aware of fashion and know how they want to look. We also have clients that come specifically for certain brands. And so for us, it is really about knowing the client and knowing the area.

Which celebrity would you love to see come in Cream?

Ummm .... next question.

Why do you love GIRLS FROM OMSK?

They are great people with a great collection. GIRLS FROM OMSK have stayed true to what the brand stands for. They fit the image of the shop and they bring a different flavour. Often, if a client is looking for that one special item, they find it in GIRLS FROM OMSK.

What is your favorite item from the FW2011 GIRLS FROM OMSK collection?

The MISTY WOOL. It’s a jacket that is great for men and women. (here is Tommy modeling the MISTY WOOL)

For women the MIND. One of our staff tried on the MIND and ended up buying it! (here I am trying it on - I totally got the urge to buy it!)

Can you tell us something more?

LIMITS (CREAM’s sister store) was one of the first skate shops and was a destination for teens interested in skate culture. When CREAM first opened we really had the skater fashion vibe, but as time and styles changed, we’ve now become more a street-related fashion destination.

GIRLS FROM OMSK Shop Tour: The closet

The GIRLS FROM OMSK Shop Tour is a collaborative project GIRLS FROM OMSK and the shops The closet, Cream, Wake Up, Mr. Ego, Rewind and garde-robe nationale. We wanted to let you know a little more about the shops that carry the collection.

Store name: The closet

The closet (ex Street Teaser) is about a modern way of getting dressed in the morning. It is not about stepping into a “dressing room” for a head-to-toe designer look. It is about finding your everyday style in a mix and match of different brands and styles.

Who are you?

Thomas (buyer and sales)

What is the store concept?

Urban wear chic & trash for men and women

Clothes for a fashionable, urban life, but that also keep a playful edge. These clothes are for living, a mix of styles that reflect the wearer.

Who shops here?

Originally, we had teen audience interested in street wear, but we’ve stayed with our clients and seen a style evolution as they get jobs, start families, etc. It’s still the same urban vibe, but a bit more sophisticated.

Which celebrity would you love to see come in The closet?

For women Bjork. (image from Bjork.com)

For men John Cho. (image from Imdb.com)

Why do you love GIRLS FROM OMSK?

They are urban wear chic and trash. The collections are broader each season and evolving to match our client.

What is your favorite item from the FW2011 GIRLS FROM OMSK collection?

For men, the BOOTY LOVER. It's in our menswear section because it would work just as well for men and it is big enough to fit men as well as women. (Thomas modeled one to prove the point)

For women the BIRD MILK. It is 2 tops in one, a sheer/opaque black striped top over an opaque inner top. Both tops can be worn separately or together as tunics/dresses/tops and it can even be belted to change the shape. (Here’s me in the BIRD MILK - the one I later ended up taking home with me - good sales pitch!!)

Can you tell us something more?

We are known for our sticker collection. There are people that stop by the shop just to collect our stickers.

The closet is a team effort. Everyone here contributes and we value each other’s ideas
